Not to be mean... but using the pot distiller column does not make it a ""essential oil distiller"", since my column was missing the stainless steal screen, I cut up one out my food strainer to give it a try, in this 'mode"" there is no need for the huge kettle because it only fits a few cups of material, I used mint since I have a lot of it and not as important as the lavender, the results are less smell of boiled plant material, the con is the plant material is still touching a very hot column since it takes high heat to get the steam up to the condenser, and of course less oil because there is less material that will fit.
Next I will be trying the chocolate mint, than after I clean the stainless steal from residue and get a new tube for the different oil, I might try the scented geranium, but really I don't want to waste the material until I have a proper essential oil distiller."

yep that Codex is a scary thing, a cruel and inhuman law, I have no words to express what I think about Codex, to me it is about as evil as a serial killer, just killing people slower with more doctor bills.

I would have tweaked that still, long ago, if I had the equipment and know how and physical strength, which I don't, that is the reason why I had spent my funds on a ""complete essential oil distiller kit"" to begin with, and I won't be able to upgrade it in any near future, funds are tight. I knew that they would be tight the other reason why I wanted to go with stainless steel instead of messing with glass.

I had thought of shortening the column if it where possible for me to do, I don't think I could get any one to do it for me because with the condenser on it, anyone would be afraid to work on it and would have to take it to their shop or place of employment where there would be proper tools... I can see it now them trying to explain it to their boss.

And even though I've spoken to the county twice in 20 years about the laws of the still before I got one, which, it is legal to have one and use it and have it set up, as long as it's NEVER been used to make spirits or run explosive chemicals in it, people around here do not believe me, in fact one young couple got arrested and humiliated in the news for having an antique one, un-assembled, none working in the bottom of a junked up shed. Even the police didn't know it was legal to own a distiller. But since they worked for the board of education.. their lives are ruined over it. I think I would be way more comfortable if mine looked more like a essential oil distiller and less like a moonshine distiller, attorneys are expensive, and once your name has been run through the mud in a small town, it sticks"
