Ok...I threw out the last batch and started over. I followed the directions on the side of the jug of molassas that i bought from Brewhause and only used the molassas and 5 gal water ( no Sugar). The air lock bubbled good for two days and then stopped bubbling. Is it fermented already?

Did you aerate the liquid for at least 15 minutes before pitching?? If you used hot water to dilute the nolasses then it needed to be heavily aerated. I have made that mistake a time or two.:)

An SG hydrometer is a necessary tool so you wont have to guess about fermenting being finished."

Yes I did airate it pretty good. Wondering if I should add sugar or more yeast? I used rum yeast from Brewhause.

I aerated by using a paint stir on a drill.I did this for about 10 to 15 minutes. I didn't do anything special when I put the yeast in. Just poured it in and stirred with drill. Thanks!

Years ago, when Brewhaus first came out with the rum yeast, I and several others here got stuch ferments. We thought it was a turbo, but it wasn['t and needed nutrients, acid etc. Don't know if they have changed it or not? Mollasses like sugar has no nuetrients."

Actually, molasses has a number of nutrients for the yeast. Unfortunately, it is also missing several, which is why there are nutrients included with the Rum Turbo Yeast.

Also, because of the number of unfermentables in molasses, you will not likely get a finishing gravity down to 1.000 or below.

I dont really understand what the hydrometer does. When fermentation is complete, what will the reading be? Right now mine reads at 1.01 Anyhelp would sure be appreciated!
