"In my next sugar wash, i think i would like to use sodium bicarbonate to help the end product have less oils. My notes say to add it to the spirit run. Is this only for pot still runs? or is it ok to use it in my fractioning rig in the first run for neutral. I really only want to run the wash once slowly and caefully. Opinions or advice please. "

"Nay scotty. It is only to be added to low wines and the final spirit run. Never to the mash or wash run. It will create ammonia issues and ruin your product. OK MW-- right now I used a very slow distillation in the CM still on 14 gallons of wash. And have the alcohol in a 2 gallon glass jar that has 1/4 cup of activated carbon per liter. we swish it a few times a day-- i guess ill try it for about 10 days then let it clear-- ill siphon off and filter it again through coffee filters. This is the first time i'm finally messing with carbon. I have a crazy idea for a stainless filter that will not be 3 feet long but right now there are som many other things ahead of that. I just broughin a lot of sugar to make another sugar wash. ill try the powder in the a spirit run with this batch. The alcohol that is in the carbon now' already smell actuall delicious to me. well any other pointers for me MW ---------------ONE MORE QUESTION ON THE BAKING SODA---------------- Next month is my second anual Irish style whiskey run. Sooo can i use the powder on the second and third runs with the pot still???"

scotty. Did you dilute your spirits to 50% ABV or less? This is necessary for good carbon filtering.
