Has anyone done this? After diluting the final product down to 80-100 proof, has anyone boiled the activated stone carbon in a saucer full of water, then drained the water out and put the carbon directly into final product 1 liter mason jars and shaken it many times for a few days? After doing this filtered it through coffee filters for a cleaner final product?

"Im doing it now but i didnt boil the carbon. The alcohol smells delicious after about 5 days. i forgot about how the boiling is suposed to increase the carbons efficiency.
So far it smells like i will be glad i am doing it.:)"

This sounds exactly how i do it though in larger carbouys. no diff. will work well. every time i shake or swirl it, i remove the lid, aireate with sone fresh air, then agitate the brew. sweetens and cures it immensly. At least 3 weeks is best to allow the water marriage to take effect and the carbon to be most effective."

I have done it that way but now prefer to wrap the carbon in a filter paper ball and tie shut with a bit of copper wire and shake daily for a few weeks, don't know if it is any better but is less of a mess to deal with - unless you break your sack.

If you wash your carbon first to eliminate powders, it all settles nicely to the bottom so you can pour off clean distillate or rack it. BTW. Raw activated carbon is one or the best products to add to a stomache issue. It wil absorb the toxins and flush them out just as it does our brew."

"Yeah I followed all the carbon procedures when I first did it but like keeping them in little balls in a jar and just pop in and out at my leisure. I have enough stock as it doesn't really matter on the time.
I remembered seeing a documentary of some pretty smart monkeys stealing charcoal to settle their stomachs so they could continue to eat a certain plant that made them sick from time to time.
It was funny because the men were making charcoal for fuel and the large troops of monkeys would be stealing a charred chunk from every direction making it look like a keystone cops episode."
