2nd time i made three 1.75 liters check with alcohol meter reading 178 proof i was happy check again a few days later could not beleave my eyes the meter read just under 160 proof what went wrong i was geeting ready to cut to 90 proof were did i go wrong thanks stan

Well.... did you let it AIR out so it would de-gas??? If so you should know that alcohol WILL evaporate. The same happened to me before and I figgered that I screwed up too. Now it could be other things so lets decipher, did the temp go through wild changes or was your hooch the same temp each time you read your meter cause that will make a diff also. I no expert but it should'nt be that hard to figger it out.

What was your distillate temp commin off the still?

Airing can cause abv drop from evaporation,,,,,,,,but this is a good thing.
