"I just made my first sugar wash. I wanted to do a simple uncomplicated wash to get familiar with my apparatus.

I used the Turbo 48 from Brewhaus, 12.5 lbs of Sugar and water to 25 liters.

This thing was boiling under the airlock like mad from 5PM on the 26th until this morning. Roughly 46 hours in total and it has slowed to a bubble now and then.

I removed the top of the fermenter and gave the wash a good stir, lots of sizzle coming off then re-capped the fermenter.

I am still getting a bubble now and then.

I did not check SG or anything else at this point as I am unclear about the process. Do I remove a sample to test or just float the hydrometer in the fermenter with the top off?

In addition, if this is really done at this point do I siphon off to another vessel to clear? I have read elsewhere on the forum that I can place the whole thing outside and the cold will help to settle also there was mention of an additional benefit here as there may be some advantage to Freeze stripping in this manner as well.

My questions have become lost in that bit of rambling...
1, Basically, do I test the wash ion the fermenter or another vessel?
2, Do I let the entire mess settle outdoors overnight?
3, Do I rack and let settle a third time??"

If you sterilize the thermometer you can (do you know how to read it?)

Well of course.

Do I rack and let settle a third time??
No need if you give it enough time.

With a sugar wash its pretty easy to clear. And time or a clearing agent works great. Now with a Turbo yeast it takes 12 - 15 days to finish and start clearing. So 2 weeks to ferment and 5 days to clear (if no clearing agent used) and if you rack into another fermenter its even better.
The sizzleing after stirring -- thats co2 trapped in the trub which is normal."

I want to get this right...

Let it settle and then rack it off to another container?

I will be patient (yeah sure) right now it looks like milk."

"You'll still get a bubble now and then even if your wash is done. To make sure, put your hydrometer in the container(make sure its sterilizd in boiling water and then let cool) if it reads at the zero mark or less,all your sugars have been fermented and you should start your clearing process.
