Found this site about a week ago and have gotten alot of info. my friend and i are thinking about building a valved reflux still and will be having a few questions in the near future. this board is very informative but not to serious. seems like thats how you gotta be to do this kinda stuff. was wondering about methanol, can it be made with the equipment we will be using, or is it too dangerous? we would like to produce both fuel for the race car and the race team. so, hello and thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Methanol, also called methyl alcohol or wood alcohol uses a completely different process.

Methanol is a highly poisonous liquid. It will kill you if you drink it, and it can kill you if it soaks into the skin. Methanol is made by heating wood wastes, stalks, etc., under relatively low heat and high pressure and then purifying the product by fractionating columns.

Thanks for the heads up, i thought it would be simpler than that. we actually do have a race car that uses methanol as fuel. wasn't planning on drinkin the methanol, thinkin about saving money on race fuel. guess we'll just have to save money on the hooch.
