Im in the middle of a stripping run using a sugar wash that started with an sg of 1.075 and finished with .990 and Im my alcholometer fell right down and would be submerged if my test jar was any deeper! Its running in pot mode. My friend had this problem before also but cant find that post! Temp at column in pot mode is about 90*c. I even shut off the water to the condenser and drew off enough to see if it was a leaking condenser but same result. Anyone ever have a problem with the alcholometer bought here? Definitely tastes like 80 proof to me. I think it might be the fact that it is a stripping run as I put a lighter to it and it lit, barely! I also was running pretty hot, could I have been carrying to many water vapors over with it.

Ive been doing stripping runs all day yesterday an today as I just got my still yesterday morn. I have 4 gallons of low wines whic i would assume are around 80 proof as it will light but not easily and burns blue. I have a alcoholmeter(Proof& Tralle) but just sinks to the bottom completely submersed under the alc. Would a 30-60% be better for this part as the 1 I have goes from 0-100%? The first stripping run I ran a little hot so figured I may have gotten to much water evap in there but this 1 Im going slower just to see if I could eliminate the ? Ive been running this batch at 179* give or take 1* very stable.

"did you change your testing jar? in your first post you stated that your jar wasn't deep enough. then you stated that it sank below your alc. did you wash your alcohometer in hot water. i have heard that will through it off. i don't know if this helps.
just me"

Did not wash it at all, The same test jar but it just wasnt as full the first time for the alcholmeters tip was just sticking out, its below the -10 mark. Both of these batches hae done this even when I run it real cool just to make sure I wasnt evaporating water along with it. All samples burned!

Just figured it out, Brewhaus sent me an oeshlemeter instead of the alcoholmeter that I ordered! I have never seen this type before as all I use are the triple scale hydrometers. Thanks for trying to figure this out and boy do i feel like a fool be a very experienced wine maker andnot recognizing a different hydrometer. :)

Thanks Rat! That may be why I'm getting moisure inside mine. However, no obvious cracks. New one arrived yesterday from Brewhaus!
