That plastic carbon filtering kit is such a rickity thing to mess with. Can I substitute say a 2 or 3 inch PVC column and Ball Valve. Sure would be stable and the Ball Valve would give you a lot more control?? Really not sure if the PVC would degrade in contact with srong alcohol?? And there's always that yellowish plastic waste/drainage pipe which will stand up to just about anything you pour down the drain.

"Been there, done that and quit. Got some glass carboys in adequat sizes for my needs. 3, 5, and 6.5 gal. sizes. Also a few gal. jugs. Then just added a large bit of washed carbon to each. Swirled it as oft as I could, opened the top to let it brearh fresh air. Not to mention to allow the water and alc. to marry wicth takes a bit of time also to complete. All this is after cutting down to 50% or less.

Distilling at 95%, then cutting and carboning, you can't believe how much yuck comes out of the carbon when I clean it. I make super heavy cuts when distilling the spirit run also.

Then and only as needed, I will filter through an 8"" ss tea filter lined with coffee filters. Takes time, but other things to do also. Only takeing off what I need, and letting the rest sit on the carbon."
