God, I really wish I could visit with one of you guys. I'm gonna have to do this on my own. Anyway, while searching the net I found Col Wilson's site selling copper stills. Anyone use one? Are they worth the money? I was looking at the "10 GALLON OZARK MOUNTAIN STILL" to use as a pot still.
But I have, here, in my Brewhaus shopping cart, a EE PSII HC and about $200 additional stuff. Just can't seem to hit the BUY button. I have the money, it's just that everything I read here seems to add a level of complication. Maybe I'm reading too much.

I almost opted for one of the Col's stills. They are beautiful. After much study, thought of building my own, but more study decided to go with the high capacity unit till I learned and had a better grasp. I have never looked back, or had any regrets. I would still love one of those copper kettles, but it would sit beside my fireplace hearth as the premier decoration for my house. Also, SS is so much easier to maintain and keep clean. It doesn't take much copper in the vapor path to react with any sulfer comeing up. And the HC is so dang fast relatively.

"I got the Pro Series 2, 7 gal. and use it in reflux. This system is of high quality and you will be very happy ( money well spent) Although now I would like a bigger pot, mabey 30 - 50 gal. Has anyone else used a SS hot waterheater ??? Just an idea ?

popapina Quite a few have used them. You have to take out a rod in the top which is there to prevent explosive gasses from building up. Copper or ss plug for the inlet, and pressure releave, and replace bottom drain with one suitable, not the plastic they all have now. Undo the thermostats, have the upper one with a switch or 220 plug, and get a router speed control or other suitable device to control the bottom. I am perfectly happy with beer kegs. I can now run 2 at the same time. Hard for me to find time so runs are far apart. I can do fast stripping runs in one and the slower spirit run in the other."
