I don't use one, but the climate where I live is such that maintaining a temp north of 70*F is not really an issue.

Im wondering if most of you guys use them and what your thoughts are on them? My basement is a constant 63*f so I too had to find a heating solution. First thing I researched was a heating pad like for sore muscles..(I use 6gal buckets for fermenters) Can't use these because every one I looked at had a 1 hr auto shut-off. Next I thought about an electric blanket like for your bed but discarded this because of the mess around the buckets especialy doing sugar washes. So I went with the Aquarium heaters... the small sized ones... and other than a few pieces of rubber coming off them they work pretty good. The 15w (for 5 gal aquariums) keep the bucket at about 85*f and the ferments realy took off. The little bits of rubber worry me but my wash will finish at about 10% and with filtering I'm hoping all will be well. And since it is all going to be distilled I should be ok. V.. ----Update.... After 3 days use... They seem to be fluctuating a bit more now.. between 75 and 80*f cost was $12 for the 15w (only had 1) $17 each for 2 of the 20w. V"
