I need Some help?.
I am running a reflux still I am getting 90% at 82Temp dropping to 85%at the end.
What I was wanting to know
1 Can this be improved
2 Why when I put the thmm up to say 90 i cant
distill any more out?
3 When reading about others operations they say things like ' The still will start dilsilling heads at xx then will rise to 87 then will rise to 90 and the tails start'
Do stills tempitures 'rise on their own' As I have to manually Turn mine up.

If the still column is running in equilibrium then the column temperature will rise when the lower boiling fractions have been pushed out of the column. It sounds like you keep changing the coolant flow. This will disrupt the equilibrium.
The energy required to convert the alcohol from a liquid to a vapor comes from your still heat source. This is different from the temperature the phase change occurs at in the still body and column. In my still there are distinct rises in column termperature between the heads, body and tails that reflect the increasing boiling points of the types of alcohols in the wash.
You should try a run by setting the coolant flow and charting the temperature and time versus purity. This is very instructive and will help you learn your still charactaristics. This also works with a potstill.
