"Copper Path
Since I use the PSII all stainless distiller I will have no copper in my spirit path when in pot mode, I know in strip it can cause a problem but how about loading the short 18"" tower with copper packing for the slower spirit run? I am a week or so out from my washes being done and may just try it for grins as I have six - 5 gallon tubs bubbling right now. It sure did smell good in the kitchen this morning.
For pot runs I am only doing the All Bran recipe, heavy on the bran then oaking (hickory). Though the last batch never made it to the aging rack as it got intercepted and drunk."

"i just roll some mesh into the column for the pot mode. I have a 12 inch extension for my fractioning tower-- i just fill that with copper--then i fill the rest of the tower with raschig rings.. I think i will use all copperin my fractioning still tower next time. I cant find the link now but i believe that stainless scrubbers are better than raschig rings and copper mesh is even better than stainless. The chart is half way down this page. http://homedistiller.org/refluxdesign.htm#ss"

Can you add a few feet of copper coil after the condenser while leaving your column with Raschig rings?
Or does the copper need to be in the steam/vapor path rather than the condensed liquid path?
I just realized that this is a pretty old post. I may ask the question elsewhere...

I just realized that this is a pretty old post. I may ask the question elsewhere... Its a good idea to add copper after the condense to eliminate the rubber hose." |

"BR WROTE ""Scotty,
Get rid of them raschig rings and pack ur whole column with copper and I bet u will quit producing off flavored spirit. ""
My 2 inch mile high tower has a blockage at the bottom. i hate the design. It is a heavy screen held to a cross bar with a bolt. It is designed to hold the raschig rings in place. I added a 1 foot extension to the bottom of the tower just so i couls pack that sextion easily with copper mwsh. I realise it is the best packing but i will not go nuts to get the whole tower filled with copper.
While i am thinking, i might buy a 10 ft section of hard copper pipe and make some copper rings to use instead of the raschig rings but the fact remains that the mesh is the most efficient."
