"I'm gonna try using ec1118 for a while. Sometimes bakers yeast has that sour dough bread taste in the background. Maybe I used to much but I have heard folks say ec is the cats azz. And turbos cost an arm and a leg --so to speak. Now with all that said how many envelopes should one use in a 5 gallon wash? I used 3 with bakers yeast in 5 gallons--- 1 with Turbo's in a 5 gallons.
So are 3 ec's equal to 3 bakers envelpoes??? (And I do use extra nutrients in all my mashes and washes.) Should I use more of less of this yeast???
Thanks in advance."

"i use one in my 6 or 7 gallon batches but i copied a great starter bottle formula that uses 2 pks of 1118. i've been using 1118 for years. ill see if i can post the starter bottle instructions--Ive used this new method recently and it works very well.

INSTRUCTIONS
only use wort after dap-energizer , hulls and acid blend have been added
use 1 liter of wort and one liter of tap water in the 1 gallon glass jar
aerate the starter bottl for 15 minutes before pitching the yeast
pitch 2 packets of 1118 to starter bottle
allow 2 hrs and 45 minutes for yeast to multiply before pitching.
aerate the wort for 45 minutes during the last 45 minutes of the starter bottle

you wont be disapointed if you take the extra effort here

You will have the equivilent of many packets of yeast with this starter bottle method.

REPEATED---

only use wort after dap-energizer , hulls and acid blend have been added

"I'm adding this under this thread cause it's about the ec-1118 yeast. I started a Gerber wash yesterday with ec-1118 and a few extras for good measure. It smells better than the bakers yeast wash. Really fresh and sweet. I think I've found a new friend in this product. This is the recipe......
5 gallon wash
1 box of Gerber - multi-grain
2 envelopes of ec1118
10 lbs of sugar
3 beanno tabs - dissolved
lime juice - just a squirt
yeast nutrients - (cause i have em) - 1.5 tablespoons
epsom salt - 1 tablespoon
I haven't seen the violent ferment that I expected but so what.. It smells great and we'll see what's to be. Hoping for the best."
