"Is it safe to rack my wash in those 5 gallon water jugs?
I know I cannot store or age my final product in them, but what about a 10 to 15% abv wash?"

The wine makers use the better bottles which are plastic- but as you say--never store or age the product in them no mater how low the alcohol content-- I believe that they are ok as a tool but nothing else.

The Better Bottles are rated for that level of abv, but I doubt if the water jugs are. If you can't find a glass carboy then get some gallon glass jugs. I really wouldn't use water jugs.
