"Hi. Been reading for a long time, suffering with an Amazing Still.... However, my Essential Extractor PSII High Capacity has been ordered and is on the way! My question is regarding the heat source. Apparently, it will work acceptably with a 1500W heater, but not very quickly. I have read the forums and guys are using propane burners around 220,000 BTU. Is this necessary? I have a 70,000 BTU burner now, will this work? My circumstances right now will either have me running my still indoors, or outside in a shed, not insulated or heated. I live in Canada, and winter is coming :-("

I live in Canada, and winter is coming :-( Welcome, I have one of those big ones that i use when doing a run in my half keg. It uses a lot of gas but is way faster. I use the smaller one like yours for the orinal brewhause keg when just doing one fermenter. Works great. Perfect size for what you are getting. Insulate the top halfof your keg or cut a drum with a large hole in the bottom for the column and to allow the propane fumes to escape and invert it over the boiler to trap the heat and heat it all the way up. cut it to fit heigth while resting on some bricks at the bottom to allow air in/ insulate column well. You will have problems if really cold with your water lines freezing. Happened to me once, do you may have to use a water tank with some antifreeze in it? All that of course if running it in the shed when its cold."

Absolutely brilliant! Love the heat trap idea. The wife wasn't very excited about using the propane heater indoors, anyway....
