First read this blog if you will. Well i have 3 small barrels intransit- 1 1liter and 2 5 liters.
well i think something is missing from this guys ageing in small barrels idea.
I think that yes the oaking can be greatly increased by using small barrels/ oak chips also.
but doesnt time have a great deal to do with whatever happens to whiskeys when in the barrel for years??"

Time is an issue. I can see where small barrels allow more surface contact, by volume, vs a large barrel thus picking up the flavors quicker. However, time is what mellows the whiskey. The natural circulation through a large barrel as the seasons change - can't be duplicated.

ill agree with that.

I read where wine improved in smaller barrels when it was transfered across country on mules or shipped across an ocean.

The shaking i guess.

I think i might strap my small fish tank pump tp a small barrel and see if that effects some wine first..

i use the pump to aerate a wash that had to be heated during a mashing."
