I like berry schnapps quite a bit and the method I use to make them is to take a half gallon jar, fill with berries , add enough nuetral spirits and water to make a 25-30% alchol solution and let it sit for a month, shaking frequently . Then I pot still this. This makes a huge mess in my still that takes forever to clean. How easy is it to get to the part of your 4 liter easy still that would need cleaning? It looks like the top might just screw on from the pictures but I want to make sure before wasting my money

Rank: Guest Groups: Guests Joined: 2/10/2002(UTC) Posts: 5,254		Tazac, The top comes off quite easy. It just sits on top. I bought the unit a couple weeks ago and have made a couple batches. I'm using a wash that is about 18-19%. I'm using the Alchometer ,sp, that came with the kit. I've run the batches through the EasyStill a couple times, and the alcohometer is showing a slight change. Any suggestions? I know that the process is working somewhat. The wash has a yellow hue to it, and after running through the still alone ,without going through the active carbon filter,, the yellow hue is almost gone. Any clue what I might be doing wrong, or am I using the alcohometer wrong? I thought you just put it in and read where it touches the water. Thanks, Kevin

Rank: Guest Groups: Guests Joined: 2/10/2002(UTC) Posts: 5,254		I am not exactly sure what you mean when you say that the alcoholmeter is showing a slight change. If you mean that the reading has changed on the same sample, then this is likely due to a change in the temperature of the liquid.

Would only adding 1.5 liters instead of the 4 liters make a difference? It's only a slight change in the amount of liquid it produces through the still. I'm just wondering if its working correctly. Thanks
