Your cylinder must have been acrylic... ethanol eats acrylic.

Was from a local wine and beer supply shop. Probibly, have a glass one on order. worked fine with the 180 P but this later more purer batch must have breached its limit.

Yeah, glass has a melting point of about 1000*c Hopefully your juice wasn't quite that hot!

I have it dialed in pretty good with my simple little pot. Measured 190 proof before the cylinder disolved :)

"huh.......i see admin says ethanol eats acrylic and I believe it, I just saying that never happened to mine. You know mine might be some other plastic --other than acrylic. But I have put 190 in it with no ill effects. Oh well I just got lucky I guess."

Most of the time I dont measure 190 cause I throw out the first pint that comes across. To me thats the foreshots and some of the heads that I dont want anyway. Then by the time I start keeping it its down to 180 or so. Thats just my workings and really means nothing..........

I will get the mfg id for it and post. It was from a local wine supply shop. Samples at my lab have been at 95% since I installed the omega temp control system. Looking into plastic compatabilty I agree with admin. Lexan appears to be the issue.
