"I had a buddy who had a still and made his own and sometimes, when the timming was right I was given a littel, hes gone now and the only way for me to get any now is make it myself.

The internet is a wonderfoul thing!

I found a still on line and its being shiped to the house, woohoo!!!
its something called a Micro Venom, this model has a thumper, I liked the idea of making flavored drinks

Im new to all of this and trying to learn everything I can, the info on the net does not have a ""rules of thumb"" that I have forund expet, throw away the first 100ml of what come out.

With the still on the way I wanted to start a wash so I call a local brew your own beer store to see if they carryed any yeast, they do, and what a helpful place that was, he had lots of thing to help me out Fermenter, Hydrometer,& crushed grain!

-20 L water (5 gal)
-3 kg (7 lbs) crushed grain
-10 lbs sugar

Monday I cooked my wash mixed the sugar, added the yeast like the guy at the beer store told me to and held my breath, the next morning the home made bubbler was working and I'm on my way to 7 to 10 days of waiting"

It can be pretty exciting, especially when you are first starting out. Is your still a new one? Have you got a picture or a link? Have fun and don't forget what you are doing once you fire up the boiler :)

Yes its new, can't wait to get my hands on it, I want a bigger one already, I wanted to buy one someone perfected and maybe then when I understand more about what im doing I can build something hold 5 gollons

Post a report on how that works. Make sure you don't fill your boiler more than about 2/3rds full. What is your heat source?

"Im going to use gas for heat, dont know which one yet,

I have a bbq with a burner on the side of it, its runs on natural gas,

I have the house stove, it has a bigger than normal burnner,

a turkey cooker, i got to go fetch propane for!"

I'd try the BBQ with the side burner first. Definately don't use the stove in the house. The turkey cooker would no doubt be the fastest, maybe you can rejet it to burn natural gas. The gas company should know if they can do that.

I thought i would use the bbq too! I like the turkey cooker becouse I can move the cooking into the garage where i might be able to hold the temperature better

Just checking in to see if your unit got there....that mico venom still comes from a guy thats not real prompt or trustworthy. If you bought used from someone else well maybe no prob. but he shut his site down for a while to let things cool off, if ya know what I mean. Hopefully no such issues for you and happy stillin.

"Outstanding.....once you get it in your hands if you give the deminsions of the unit most folks here can really be helpfull in the operation of your unit.
You know like, dont fill your boiler too full, more or less heat whilst cooking, how big a wash to make and all kinds of other things that you just haven't thought of yet. So anyway keep us posted."
