Is it necessary or advisable to wash/rinse/start the activated carbon filter with distilled water or is tap water sufficient?

Ive done it with tap water thats heated and poured right in the filter. The carbon will hold some so as you pour likker in just keep touching whats falling out and when you feel its the temp of your likker start collecting.
