I have looked through several different forums on the net and thought id found and bookmarked a calc for determing how much water is left after taking off X amount of likker....ie 10 US gal of wash
8.5%acv will produce X amount of likker and there will be y amount of water left in still. I have built a stripper out of a 15.5 gal SS keg , fired by propain with a 4 ft liebig condenser. i would like to strip enough off several batches to make 10 gal second run..second run is all ill do, as dont need 92%acv... anybody knowing a link to a calc that would do this would be my new best friend... LOL

"Don't know of that specific calculator but the formula seems pretty easy if you convert to ounces...

10gal =1280oz x .085(8.5%alc)=108.8oz of distillate. 1280oz-108.8oz=1171.2oz left in the kettle, or 9.15 gallons if you take the 1171.2x128(oz in a gallon). Hope this helps, sorry I couldn't help otherwise."

JD thanks for the help... i just built everything to give it a try more so i can say i did it than anything else. i should of been able to fig that out . i had a web page bookmarked to the calculator but they seem to have changed the site ...oh well your help again is GREATLY APPRECIATED....bh

No problem BH. may I ask why you'd want to know the amount of leftover water? Is it a scorching concern? I'm just asking because I'm still very novice at this as well and do not want to overlook things.

it was not so much how much was left over as how much was taken off. i have posted several time and i have found that sometimes a full and complete discription is better than just asking simple question as then you get direct answer rather than having the question answered with a question

clicked submit instead of preveiw.....my plan is to run enough stripping runs to collect 12 gallons to run through a second time .... to that end i am trying to build my list of materials corn ,yeast , water ect... there is a method to my maddness ....but most of the time its just maddness..bh

I was thinking, theoretically my math is correct if you were just pulling all the available alcohol. Ya know, the end of each run will be a lot of water coming through. The 108oz is just the potential alc to be extracted.

I understand that to be correct...using as a guide line only to do a fast run without worrying about the the cuts... the second run of the low wines will be a lot slower and will do the cuts by temp and taste again if my readin is correct...

boozehound did I read that right, you want to get 12 gallons for a second run??? Man thats a lotta cooking. I only get about 3 quarts out of a 5 gallon wash so if my math is right thats 16 five gallon runs. WOW now thats dedication to a hobbie. Happy stillin.

correct or close enough.... i have a 15 gal keg to use for a pot so will be doing 10 gal batches taking approx 2 gal of low wines a run so only 5 maybe 6 runs then one final.... i know you are wondering why so much???? want to be able to make enough "apple pie" for our river run party 25 - 30 people i always make 4 - 5 gallons of wine and a couple korny kegs of beer... thought this year a little corn squeezens would be nice.... Popcorn Sutton said that when he died it was done as no body was gona work this hard again to make likker...he was right on my count agreed it is a lot of fun but a lot of damn work and money........ when this is done so am i
