I am making a valved reflux still and I am concerned about methanol. What would be a good way to get rid of it before collecting the ethanol. PLEASE HELP.

stabilise the column for 30mins before collecting anything and toss the first 50-100ml depending on the size of your wash volume and your level of paranoia. If you are making sugar washes you dont have to worry since the amount of methanol produced is absolutely minute, you get 100's times more methanol naturally occuring in fruit juices.
Remember no methanol is created in distillation just separated, so if you distill 5l of beer into 500ml of alcohol and collect everything you will have the same amount of methanol if you drink either. The real problem only occurs if you distill an absolutley huge grain/fruit wash and collect and drink the first bottle.

Far more risk of the ethanol killing/harming you

Boy do I envy you with a 15 gal keg! I have a dinky little one gal converted pressure cooked I scotched from my wife when she wasn't looking. Point is, I have tried to use a thermometer with this thing but, the readings never seem to get above 140DegF at whoch point I start collecting water! I have taken to collecting every thing after the first 50ml until it starts to being too watered down and ignoring the thermometer altogether. When I use Prestige Vodka yeast, I can make nearly 3/4 litre of the best damned whiskey around ,no, its not me, it's the good yeast I get from Brewhaus that does this, in a ONE GALLON STILL! With this setup, I had to put the thermo through the lid about ond third of the way from the top, this means I can only extend it about 1/2inch at most into the lid without dipping into the liquid. Would it really matter if i simply pushed it on down into the wash and worked from there, basing my collection on the known evaporation point of 176DegF for ethyl alcohol vs. 212degF for water?
Somebody help me before I posion myself!
Thanks guys, ,I love this forum,
