"1. Those gaskets that go between the sections of the column and the silicon gasket on the boiler lid, how often should they be replaced?
2. I have yet to figure out where that ""Keg O-ring"" that came with the still goes. Can somebody clue me in?
Thanks"

Hmmm never thought on it much but guess I would hold out to replace them when they started leaking..but I aint one to emulate. The cheesy little O ring supposed to go on the bottom of the SS gizmo where it meets the lip of the little keg hole. I think. Best grab a handful of them things. They dont last long. Got a hot tip to carve one out of cork and give it a Double wrap out Teflon tape. Takes a small roll so you can pass it in out of the hole so to speak. Last longer..cheaper shipping etc. Now hoping your trying to go from a column to a keg here. If not I take all this back of course.

hmmm, mine's got the same gasket at the hole going into the boiler as the union of the upper and lower column. It's a flat gasket with a ridge. I can see the o-ring fitting but why would I use it rather than the much beefier flat gasket?

Well can that gizmo you got be hooked up to a keg boiler? Thats the only place I ever heard of a need for the little o ring in question. I would by all means put it away for a rainy day and use the big washer. Only thing I can think of is maybe the one you got can swing both ways. What have you got for a boiler now? What is the diameter of the column? Two inch prob just slap right on a keg. Not sure if its a 3". Not sure how that could snug up. Maybe they have adapters to make it fit or something. I have the big milk bucket boiler and a 3" column. Cant see it fitting down on a keg. Maybe thats why I didnt get the o ring.

It's a Brewhaus Essential Extractor II with the premium milk can boiler. Ain't had no problems with leaks. I was just curious as to why it was thrown into the package. It's listed in the paperwork so it's supposed to be there. When I was settin' up the still I couldn't figure out where it went so I just left it in the bag.

Less I'm lying like a dawg..which is entirely possible..cant think what the little ring be used for other than a keg connection. Maybe some dope headed hippy in the packing department accidentally throwed it in the mix. Them hippies always doing exotic stuff like that. You got the same rig as me. I am moving from five or six gallon washes..and shooting for ten. Hope the cheesy little hotplate can handle it..or it dont flatten it out like Sponge Bob sometimes has happen. You get the hang of that puppy you are gonna love it. You stocked up on automotive small diameter hose clamps? Have you installed the ball valve to control condenser input? Have you insulated the fat part of the boiler? No..not the column. Dont do dat. Have you found a kid who can figger out where all the crazy hoses go? What is the strategy to deliver it some water? Enquiring minds need to know this kinda stuff. Thanks.

Enquiring minds need to know this kinda stuff. Thanks. I ain't no expert but what's been coming out has been mighty fine. I'm runnin' in reflux mode as hot and fast as she'll go. The garage is an enferno and my coollin' water tube gits too hot to dip your hand in it and hold it. What I figure is happening is there's a lot of extra smearing going on due to the heat. This is giving me more flavor than I'd normally get in reflux mode. Plus, I can make pretty good cuts. Anyway's, I'm really likin' what's coming out, it's baby butt smooth and real flavorful. Way better than any store bought I've had. It'll be interesting to see what cooler weather does to my method. I'm thinkin' it won't be as flavorful and I'll have to switch over to pot still mode and do double runs. I know you experts out there think I'm full of it but let me tell you in advance, I'm real happy with what's coming out of the still and I ain't gonna change my ways because your expert opinion thinks I should so save yer breath. As for the hot plate, so far so good. I bought me a router speed control from harbor freight for use when the weather gets colder. Gonna bypass the thermostat maybe with a switch so I can try it both ways. I'm not convinced that cycling the hot plate on and off is a bad thing. Seems like the likker flow would start and stop and I ain't seen none of that. Happy stillin'."
