"hi all. im new and i've 5 sugar washes and am pretty pleased with the results and was wanting to maybe try a bourbon mash since i just received 3 5 L barrels that i would love to have bourbon in. here are my issues.
1 i live in a city and have limited supply to ingredients i read on here (i think) or im sure where to get them. i think we have a beer store somewhere but thats a rumor.
2 what is the absolute easiest recipe for bourbon to practice with ( remember im retarded). THE EASIEST.
3 sometimes the terms used when reading all the recipe formus throws me for a loop.

danmiz, remember bourbon is a method not a recipe?? Lots of recipes will work to make a nice bourbon whiskey so once you pick your recipe (which you can find in the whiskey forum) its just a matter of aging on wood for a certain amount of time and adding any other added ingrediants you choose to help with the smoothing process. I bet Brewhaus sells everything you need such as grains and malt to make a nice bourbon whiskey, even the whiskey AG yeast and they will ship it right to your door. If you dont have any expierence with all grain you can certanly find info on line as to how to mash grain and such, but you can make a nice light bourbon with a neutral with those barrels too. So again, if all grain is a must- you'll have to learn how to mash grains (the right temps and such for each grain) and research is the best tool for your arsenal of info.

"Wow..you have opened up a can of worms here. If a person used the imagination enough to believe Uncle Jessies Sour Mash is really a mash..that bound to be close to the easiest. Use any kinda grain you want as far as I can see. Original recipe is cracked corn. Sweet feed works mo betta. Cornmeal and Rye also works. Aint snagged any rye yet but its on the agenda. Glad to have a new retarded person in the midst. Some of the folks on here of a similar genre could no doubt use a pal.OhMyGod

8 pounds flaked corn/maiz
1 pound flaked rye
2 pounds malted barley
or just use 3 pounds malted rye( my best suggestion)
1 tsp gypsum
1 tsp acid blend
5 gallons water--

yeast

add gypsum and acid blend to water

heat to 165 deg f.
add grains
mix well and mash for 90 minutes
stir a few times.

drain off grain-- use a grain bag if you have one/

cool to below 75 deg f.
aerate for 30 minutes to one hour and pitch yeasr---preferably a starter bottle.
temp dropping as low as 145 deg f. is ok during the 90 minutes"
