Hi, I was interested in building my own filtering apparatus nearly identical to the one sold here. My question is, is PVC piping that you use in your house typically chemically tolerant? I believe it is, since it is meant to deliver water and it is meant to withstand outgoing wastes. Also, if it is not 'Food safe,' do you know where one would acquire more food safe material, other than purchasing it online,.

Directely answering your question, yes to everything that goes thru a filtering unit that we are using is tolerant to chemicals. All white pvc, water lines, are food grade. Put it this way, I would be dead a long time ago if it weren't!!!!! Food safe containers can be purchased at any kitchen supply store, restruant supply etc....readyly available....Jimbull

PVC, while being food grade, is not very tolerant to many chemicals. In fact, its rating to ethanol is only 'Fair'. While it may be alright when working with lower proofs, if you are able to get hold of food grade ABS, PE, or PP tubing, it would be better. All of these are rated 'Excellent'.
