Ok, this is a new one to me. Started running off this apple wash and it started out as usual, but after getting about 1/2 a cup of good hooch, it went all cloudy on me. I made the usual 1/2 pint cuts, and it just got more and more cloudy almost to a milky color. Why would it do this? My equipment is clean, the wash smelled and looked fine. It fermented for 7 days. Only difference is the temperature has been fluctuating in the garage quite a bit over the last week. Getting close to fall/winter here. Could it be unspent sugar? Maybe the yeast? Ran about half the wash, gonna let the rest sit another couple of days. Any ideas?

Sounds like maybe you hit the tails pretty quick. Thats the only thing I ever seen which come out cloudy and that while in the pot still mode. Never got anything cloudy out of the reflux strategy. Taking a wild guess must have been less than an ideal ferment for some reason or another which ended up as a low ABV wash and not much production.

No smell of tails at all. Let it sit now for a few hours, and it seems to be sttling out. I'll check back later.

Well it settled out. Cleared up pretty nicely. Tastes fine, but a little weak, maybe about 100 proof. Settling left a white sludge on the bottom of the jars. Looks like leftover yeast or starch? Gonna let the last 2 gallons of mash sit til tonight and see what it does.

How full did you fill your pot? If to full sometimes the wash will get puked up into the tower and cloud things up.

I'm thinkin lone star came up with the first long necks, correct me if I'm wrong. Oh I also went to the chilimpiad cook off in san marcos and had to stand in the jalapeno line to kill the taste of the stars. What a shame ! when ya got something good why try to fix it

Thanks Bushy, I did actually have it fairly full on the first run. But 3 runs of the same mash in a row? I didn't think I had it that full.

Well..back in the good old days..they had whutever flavor a person might like in the longneck version. They was .20 all day long at the Airmen's Club at Sheppard Air Force Base up in Whiskeyta Falls. Some say 3.2 could not make a person drunk but it worked for high screwl kids and Airmen apparently. Made many good friends which come in them day seems like. Not sure where they at now. I'm getting mad here. Must be time to take a pill.

Well I ran off the rest of the mash. Got a full 3 quarts. Started to get milky/cloudy toward the end. I'm thinking just a bum batch. Smells and tastes good though once I filtered and strained the silt out. Made sure pot wasn't overfull and kept a really close eye on temp and cooling. Oh well, try again with the next batch.
