I started with wine 2 years ago. Have done kits, juice buckets and grapes. I've done almost 20 batches if you include hard ciders. Friend bought the BH PSII HC. Arrived last week so once this Sandy storm clears out of CT well fire up the test run and get some other stuff going.

JY I am always tempted to run some wine to make brandy. Since the only alcoholic beverage that i enjoy a bit is wine, I cant bring myself to condense the supply lol. i NEVER DID A JUICE BUCKET ((caps ) I have a #25 press fitted with a grain bag but never used it yet. Right now i am trying to ferment out a 14% red raspberry-- mickey mouse wine made from a granulated juice. The recent drop in temperature slowed it down. I'm going to break out the brewbelt. Whaccha makin now? anything??

I just bottles a dark choc orange port and a choc rasp port. Nothing in the works right now but have 4 bulk aging - chard, sangria, merlot and a carmenere rose that was from the left over grape pressing. I have 4-5 kits waiting in the queue. Just waiting for cooler weather, free time and no fruit flies. Right now I have 8 carboys of drinking water. Hopefully I won't need it... sandy is approaching... Just waiting for power to cut out....
What have you done? Any favorites?

"My favorite was a sangeovese kit. I'm not a serious anything maker. I've made tons of concord wine from 100% frozen juice.
If we had a food forum i could show off my 11 inch globe comercial meat slicer.#22 meat grinder--25 pound meat mixer-sausage stuffer--sweedish dough mixer and whatever. I'm a master of nothing i'm afraid lol"

You should try skeeterpee. If you like a lemon drink. Pretty easy to make and easier to drink.
After my last post I lost power. Just got it back an hr ago.

Do you have a recipe ??? Www.skeeterpee.com I use a beer yeast though so it leaves a bit of sweetness in it and you don't have to back sweeten.

I've been makin' wine for several years....mostly fruit wines. And mostly what I can find around my area. Mostly Elderberry and sand plum. But my best is from some Santa Rosa Plum trees that we have on the farm.....man that stuff is good. Also make alot of Skeeter Pee, but I make most of mine cranberry at about 14%. Love to watch friends try it for the first time then try to get up after sittin' a spell.....good entertainment ! Although.....we have been sooooo dry the last 2 years, that there has be no elderberries or sand plums........glad I had a good stock. Later......Tangle-out

Yep - been doing wine for a while now - run about 10 - 12 kits a year. When I get into the new house (with a dedicated wine making room) I'm going to start on some super premium kits where I'll need to set them aside for at least 2 years.

I have made a batch of mead but that is as close as I get to wine making. My father in law is a big wine maker though. I plan to use his bad batches to get the hang of this hobby. ;-)

Hi Scotty,
I've been making wine here in the Finger Lakes for about 20 years. We buy juice every fall and always have wine on hand. Right now, I have 35 gallons out in the garage for "cold stabilization". This year we have some Noiret Red (developed by Cornell about 5 years ago), Traminette - a white wine that has an aroma of roses, but has a pineapple/citrus finish, an Iona, which becomes a dry Rose' and a blend of Chardonnay and other whites, which is a good wine to have chilled while sitting on the patio in the summertime. The step into distilling has been fairly easy because of our wine-making experience. Highlander

I've tasted the wine from kits and it is quite good. If I didn't live among vineyards, that's how I would go. Having the vineyards around lets us try many different kinds of juices and it's a lot of fun. I have used some juices that I will never use again - after all of the years, I'm finally settling in on what I really like and right now, I'm liking warm evenings out on the patio (while in reality it is freezing here!).

Scotty,
Go to finevinewines.com (in Dallas) During harvest season George can supply fresh juice. I believe you can get fresh frozen juice year round.
