Coconut based activated carbon can be extremely difficult to clean after the activation process. This may not cause problems with water filtration, but can leach out chemicals when filtering alcohol, resulting in a loss of quality, not an improvement. Also, keep in mind that there are very few activated carbons well suited to alcohol filtration, of the hundreds of liquid phase carbons available.
