first time using normal sugars, i thought, shit, this doesn't seem right, was only at 10%abv after 2 days with very little action. left it for another 5 more days and it hit aroung 14-15%. some times get over 14% with dextrose,18% highest,. so i started my still up,25lt reflux,. first lt = 81% second lt = 78% thrid lt = 76% forth lt = 71% last lt = 67% avg = 74% for the 5 lts to me these result seem good, using the dextrose i would avg 60-70's, seems like using household sugars is a good idea, have other people found this??? might try using 8kg next time, as i used only 7kg with the turbo yeast by still spirits... Since my reflux still only has a marble in it, do you think it would be better to add some thing else to it??????? I hear people talking about scrubbers, what are they?? what do they look like????do i need them for a reflux still??? where would i get them if i needed them???? the minute i see the word 'scrubber', it remind me of some type of hospital show!!!! Bear in mind people, i'm still very new to this and have only done 4 runs, all turned out very well......

If you have done four runs and everything is good, why change it? Watch putting too much sugar in turbos, you'll lock them up and stop fermentation. Use the directed amount and you'll have no problems, voice of experience speaking!!!! Scrubbers are the ss or copper pot scrubbers and I wouldn't recommend them. Most of them are only copper cotted and they turn black and give off a bad smell and taste to the final product. If you are going to use copper, get pure copper mesh from brewhaus or someone else. My advice, stay with the cermics in the column, you will have better product, cleaner, just plain better. I have used both and like the cermic best. I have a copper column so don't need the taste added. If your is ss, then use a wad of copper to put in the bottom to hold the marbles in place in the column and leave it at that......one of the guys said it and its good, 'may the spirits be with you'!!!!! I have a reflux and I use the ceramic rings in the column and the product is wonderful. I made some bourbon and scotch from the esseces from brewhaus and my friends fell in love with the product. Your column is doing great, just make your cuts and go with the middle product and you will be well pleased.

I just used the Turbo Pure 48 for the first time and it is in its last stages of fermentation. I used 10 lbs. of sugar to 5 gals of water. I read somewhere that adding another five pounds of sugar to the wash when its about to stop fermenting will increase the amount of distillate. If anyone has tried this, I would be interested in their experience.

Yes, you will start up fermentation again and it will givbe you a little better c2h5oh rate, still it will only be in the `15-18% range, by my experiences, but it is a safe way to increase the alcohol content without locking up the yeast. The turbo's have a tendency to lock themselves up with too high a sugar concentration at the start so breaking the sugar down, into two increments seems to work very well...let us know how you come out...jb

I would not recommend this if you are at the upper limit of your yeast then you will end up with a neutral spirits that has a lot of sugar and stuck fermentation.
