Can i strain mash and then store it in the fridge to keep good for at least a week?

You bet and prolly up to a year...now you said in the fridge and that should be fine...

Is it ok to store the strained mash in a 5 gallon bucket from homedepot? Didn't know if it had to be a specific kind of plastic or the orange bucket from homedepot was ok. Thanks for any help.

I know Lowes has food grade 5gal buckets that are only a cpl dollars more than the reg buckets

I've always used food grade for fermenting just like for beer. There isn't that much difference in price. Better to be safe
