I think Jimbull is over acting to this. You will not die. But I still wouldn't use it because aluminum has been said to cause problems in the nervous system. Some studies also link it to Alzheimers disease. Overall I would say it's not what you to use. BTW I know someone who uses an aluminum keg as a boiler and he"s still kickin, I won"t drink his likker though!

Rubbish!

If, as you say aluminum is hazardous to your health then why do all the major stores sell Aluminum cookware? Aluminum is not at all hazardous to your health.

An old wives tale which has no substance.

Oh my goodness... get your head out of the dirt!! Aluminum is absolutely linked to many health issues... Just because they sell it doesn't make it safe.... Can you say Vioxx????

RE: Oh my goodness... get your head out of the dirt!! Aluminum is absolutely linked to many health issues...

Forget the fact that all the sodas and beer are packaged in aluminum, or the fact we cook in aluminum pots and pans, or wrap up so many food items in the dastardly aluminum foil . . .

A bigger worry is the insidious Dihydrogen Monoxide This stuff is a real killer Check it out at http://www.dhmo.org/

I think this thread is getting a little on the radical side and over the edge. For sure the dhmo.org certainly is. All accusation and inuendo with nothing to back it up. ,Not trying to start an argument with you Pete,. As far as using the aluminum funnel is concerned, there is NOTHING to be concerned about. Use it to your hearts content and don't think twice about all this other stuff. Believe me, it is perfectly safe. Many distillers use aluminum auto air-conditioner radiators for their condensers because they don't contain lead solder. But if it concerns you, go to Rick at Brewhaus and order a big plasic one and set your mind at ease.

Here is a test for those who believe that aluminum is safe. Take a 1 tsp. of baking soda and 1 cup of water and put it into an aluminum pan and bring to a boil. Cool the water than take a teaspoon and taste the water and then come back on the forum and tell me what you think. The fact is that aluminum is not hazardous in small amounts, but remember every time you use this aluminum that it will leach. Good luck, I will stick to food grade plastic.

Cavenut,

I don't mean to change the subject here, but the aluminum kegs you refer to where did they come from or what brand are they? As I have not come across such and want to 1, ensure I do not pick one up on e-bay or the such, 2, would be interested in knowing what company has gone away from the SS kegs.
