Nope I use propane and distill in my garage. It gets cold but I use an electric heater to stay warm. It's much easier to keep the cooling water cold I dont have to change out water as often thats a plus. However I ferment inside. I do keep my house kinda cool around 65-69 degrees so it takes the wash a bit longer to finish in fact my last wash took a couple days over a month. Where as in the summer it takes about two weeks. What did to speed up that process was the sit the fermentation buckets on blanks on the floor (i have hard wood floors). Wrap the buckets with towels and put a small electric heater near them to keep em warm. I think treatin em like a baby is the key in the winter months.

Hi Johnny, you might consider buying a brew belt also. Not to expensive and they help a lot.

I ferment in my kitchen. My house is also pretty cool in the winter. Mid 60's. We have tile floors so I usually put a towel under the bucket and use a brew belt. I seems to do a great job. I don't think you are supposed to wrap a towel around the bucket w/ brew belt on because of possible fire hazard.

Try insulating your boiler it will help retain the heat.

I use a hotplate, so I'm inside. I insulate the top half of my boiler as bushy mentioned ... with several old towels.
