My hooch is coming out fine and clear but it has a funky smell to it like eggs or something...does anyone know why this is?...could it be the cracked corn I'm using or what.....it's a 15 gal sugar wash with cracked corn and turbo yeast

rotten egg smell would be sulphur coming through I would think. maybe your tap water has sulphur in it? what proof are you getting when the smell occurs? what temp are you running when the smell occurs? need more info!

Hi taylorboy, How much packing are you using and is it copper. The sulpher (rotten egg) smell is a byproduct if the distilling process. Copper packing helps to get rid of it. Maddawgs

Some folks will say you dont need to carbon filter, that if you make a decent wash you dont need it,but what can it really hurt?? Even if the hooch did'nt need it can it REALLY hurt it??? I dont think so."

"Taylorboy,
Try dropping some copper (a ball of mesh or something) in jar with your funky smelling distillate and let it sit for a few days. Then let us know if the smell improves and if you see any black flakes.
The next time you do a pot run put one or two plugs in the column ... see if things improve.
