Hi all. I just got hold of a bunch of apples for free. At least enough to fill a 50 gallon barrel, maybe more. I'm lazy though and very busy with many projects so I'm also short on time.

I need suggestions on how I may EASIEST and FASTEST go about getting them ready to start the fermentation process.

Once prepared I'll add sugar of course. Any recommendations on a good yeast strain to use? I prefer to use what I have on hand which are Champagne, Montrachet, Pasteur Red, and various Turbos.

I want a strong Brandy in the end.

Thanks in advance,

Allen

After giving the matter a little thought I realized I can easily slap together a make shift press utilizing a car lift I have in my shop.

I know how to measure the natural sugar in the juice and calculate how much to add.

Still open for yeast suggestions though.

Anything else I need to know?

Once I get a fermentation going I'll be good to go from there. I've just never used apple of any kind or anything else that was not already in juice form before.

Thanks,

Allen

Found my answers at the 'Home Distillers' Forum. Guess I should have looked a little harder before bugging ya'll. Seems there is plenty to discuss on the subject of Apples though if anyone wants to keep the thread going. I'm still undecided on exactly what I'm going to do thus I'm still open fer more tips too.

I have quite a few, and very big, apple trees. I also wanted to do something with them this season rather than just let them rot on the ground. I could probably fill 5 or so of those big 'rubber maid' garbage cans with apples. I'll try to find your 'home distillers' forum to see what others are doing with apples.

Sorry for not including the link to begin with. Brewhaus' forum is great but this other site and forum is indispensable to any distiller as well. Find it all here:

http://homedistiller.org/

With that one and this one I never need to go anywhere else to find what I need to know aside from http://winemaking.jackkeller.net/index.asp since I also make wine. Making wine and distilling go hand in hand of course. I make beer too but there are too may good links to list and most of them are easily enough found with Google.

Happy reading and I hope they help you learn a great deal like they have many others and myself.
