I don't propagate yeast. I just like to play. But recently, I have purchased a sterilizer device an am considering taking a shot at it. Let me recommend a book or 2 that I find extremely informative. Yeast, a practical guide to fermentation YEAST, A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO BEER FERMENTATION Since wash is an un hopped beer. Must taste awfull too. I just wanted to recomend getting this book. It is soo thorough in its explanations. There is a lot of info on things i do not do such as propogation, washing, slants and petri dish cultures. but is has made my handling of yeast and starter bottles more professional. Learn what yeast does in all of its stages of life, why it does it and what it needs to live. You will never regret studying this book. You will understand the importance of cooler slow fermenting and especially the importance of oxygenation in the wurt population stage http://www.abebooks.com/...uide%2Bto%2Bfermentation I always buy used books
