I'm going to add a needle valve on the reflux cooling line and thought about replacing the existing tubing with pex tubing using copper crimping rings and 90's. Anybody tried this?

Anybody tried this? Hi flht01, I use the clear tubing from home depot. It helps me monitor my water flow. There is not a lot of pressure in the water lines so the extra cost for pex was not needed. But I'm sure pex would work if you have some. Maddawgs

I might try the pex 90's and crimp rings with the clear tubing. If it works it would cleanup the reflux column and still be able to monitor water flow. If it doesn't work, I did find a thread where some used copper compression fittings.

I wanted to do a quick follow-up on the pex tubing in case someone else gets bored enough to do it. I used copper crimp rings with pex tubing, both 1/2" and 3/4". The pex should be rated high enough for the temps when water isn't being used and the crimp rings make a smooth fit. 1/2" will fit the cross flow tubing with a crimp ring but its tight. I had to use a woodworking clamp to get it to slide over the stainless tubes and then clamped the ring in place.
I also installed two 1/2" needle valves to regulate flow, one to the condenser, one to the column and put a 3/4" pex ball valve bypass to keep from deadheading the pump. I'm not sure if it was worth all the trouble and expense but its done and should make regulating flow easier. I'll post a few pictures soon.
