"I cannot seem to decode the various descriptions of cleaning /sanitizer products -- Star San, PBW, Brewhaus Equipment Rinse, Easy Clean, etc.

Can someone help me understand the use of these products?

I need to do a first clean of a new brew keg/boiler and copper piping. I have a diluted vinegar solution ready to go for the first actual heating/cleaning.

But I don't know the use of these products -- cleaner ? sanitizer?

Thanks."

"The vinegar and water should do just fine for your first cleaning run. From there a good water rinse after each use should be adequate. You may want to clean your copper packing from time to time as well, but you can use vinegar/salt/water or citric acid/water for the job.

The StarSan & other ""sanitizer"" products are used for your fermenting vessels and tools (stirring spoons, mash paddles, hydrometers, siphons, etc.) ... basically anything that touches your wash ... to help prevent infections. I like StarSan & just use a spray bottle.

I've never used any of the equipment cleaning products. I suppose if I had some nasties stuck in the rig that I couldn't eliminate with just a hot water rinse or a vinegar/water run, I might give them a try ... but that's never happened."
