Hey Kane:

I was thinking along this line, but have never gone so far as to try it. I save all of my scrap wire from jobs and have a fair supply of light gauge (20) insulated wire. I was thinking of stripping the insulation and rolling spirals to about a quarter inch and filling the reflux column with the spirals. Something to do in my spare time. I think it would work.

would this give you a double or even triple distillation with three sections

I'm not sure that separating the column into sections would give triple distallation. The point of a reflux column is that you get multiple condensation points with the packing. I just know that it works. I also know that the purity of the final product is dependent on the temperature of your column, and essentially the condensation points. Someone else is going to have to weigh in on the theory and why it works. Some people insulate their columns because they dont have enough heat to input. In my design, I've added extra cooling to get higher ABV. I have also seen discussions on max ABV with different designs. So, I guess, try it. It might be a diamond or a dud.

Heya Kane? I saw a vid on Youtube about revitializing that gasket by removing it, and boiling it for 10mins or so and then re-inserting it flipped over from it's original position... Not guaranteed wot work.. but is something one can try... I dunno as I haven't used a pressure cooker. I also got some spare gaskets for my lid as a backup..Call it the boy scout in me.. :)

The dude in the vid also reccomended boiling a new gasket with some apple to get that rubber taste out...

Cheers and Good luck..

Ok, we fixed it. Pumping 170 proof for over 2 1/2 L so far. Now I did add an ice cooler pack wrapped around the column.
