I went to the festival. If ya call it a festival there were a few old bootleg cars and no stills to view or anything. So i visited Ole Smoky "again" for my taste test. The corn and "white lightening" were my two favorites they are 100 proof 50% abv. The corn they claim is distilled twice and the white lightening is distilled six times. from what I could tell they use a huge copper pot still with a thumper like barrel to claim two distillations. Then i saw a huge copper reflux tower that I assume is used for the white lightening thus 6 distillations. I cruised on down to Davy Crockett Tennessee Whiskey distillation and tried their stuff it's okay but not my favorite. They pot still everything and age and flavor it.

Oh and I met a cast member of the TV Show Moonshiners Bill Canny I had my photo taken with him. He stayed true to his character talking about the black mold. He told me that he was going to be on the new season of Moonshiners and that he and Josh had to put away the big steam still and that he was going to be using a copper still this season We did talk some about distilling methods and yeast. He seemed like a pretty good guy. It was all I could do to keep from saying that Moonshiners was full of sh%^. But i didn't so that's what i mean by true to his character as in "actor". Thanks to Ole Smoky for the light buzz at the end of the tour. I still like mine better.
