In the home distillation book it states that one should leave the fermenting lock off for a few days; my question is, do you cover the fermenting lock hole with something or just leave it open so air can get in?

Turbo yeast creates a lot of CO2 so I guess you don't really have to worry about too much air getting to the surface of the wash while it's fermenting. That said, I always put an air lock in anyway. I say better safe than sorry. I've had the air lock top blown off before but I've never ended up with a bad wash.
