"I have a PSII with the 8 gallon kettle---thinking about giving it to a friend of mine who is proficient at stainless welding, to see what he can do with it. I would like to modify it somehow, maybe doing away with the bottom half of the kettle in exchange for a larger bottom half (higher capacity), as well as seeing what he can do to give me more accessibility to the inside of the kettle for cleaning purposes. What are everyones thoughts on going to all this trouble vs simply buying a larger kettle from Brewhaus, since my column would fit their other kettles?

Hi Tracyman, I cannot imagine it would be worth anyone's effort to rebuild a kettle?? Your changing the top for easy access and the bottom for volume. Not much of the original left.

Hi Tracyman,
Hokey makes a good point. I'm guessing you're referring to the standard kettle vs. the premium kettle? If so, I can understand why you want a bigger opening for access. I've found that the opening on the premium kettle is more than adequate ... and the taper IMHO offers some advantages when cleaning since you can slosh things around pretty vigorously without making a mess.
