First , if you have a 36" 2" stack stuffed with copper scrubbers, and no slant plates is that a pretty good reflux for a 15 gal. keg? How tight do you packed the scubbers? On my condenser, I am hoping its not too big but its materials I have on hand. I turned a 90 and then right after a 45 and reduced the 2" down to 3/4" which runs thru 30" of water cooled 2" and exits and then the 3/4" gets reduced to a 1/4" for the drip tube.Everything is copper. I guess it would be called a reflux still cause I am gonna put the copper packing in the stack. I am using a 15 gal keg. Just not sure how tight or loose to put the copper scrubbers in the stack. With a 36" stack roughly how many scrubbers should I pack it with? Thanks,Dennis

"Hey cooter, you prolly cant make too tight but just to be on the safe side just make it tight enough so it wont slip out. The only thing that goes through it is steam or vapor so you almost cant make it too tight.
And as to how much..well the pack I bought form Brewhaus was more than enough, order one pack and that should fill your tower nicley."

You need cooling lines in the column before the condenser to stack the different fractions to have any reflux. If not it is only running like a pot still,however the copper will take out some of the nasties

Ok, heres what I have so far. I don't have a problem with cutting the stack part open or doing what needs to be done.My main reason wanting the reflux type is cause I want to flavor my product. So any criticism is welcome. This won't be the first or last time I put the cart ahead of the horse. If nothing else I have had fun learning how to solder. Everthing is 2" except for the colume redued 3/4" in the heat exchanger.

put a couple of cross pipes thru the column close to the top to run cooling water thru and then have a valve to regulate that water and being able to turn it off and still have water going to your condenser

What would be the best way to put the cooler lines thru the colume ? Also how far apart on the lines? Do folks flavor the product from the pot still like with apple, cherry, peach? And if so , is it much different than that from a refluxed product?

just a couple of stainless or copper pipe thru the column at a 90 to each other and hook the water line to one then loop to the other and then hook an outflow. Reflux just makes neutral like vodka. If you want flavor,depending on your wash, run in pot mode

Is it possible to drill holes in the colume and just stick tubing thru it and solder around the outside and seal it? Without using any kind of fittings? What size lines would be good? 1/2" or 3/4" or ? Thanks
