When a beer is called a British bitter what does that mean. I want to make something for and English friend-- but is it bitter tasting== I want to surprise him. -----HELP PLEASE

i use to frequent a British pub and they served a lot of orange bitter beer which was just adding a dash of orange bitters to their draught beer.

scotty, Get a copy of the BJCP Style Guidelines at: http://www.bjcp.org/stylecenter.php The guidelines will tell you everything you want to know ... and then some. Hi Scotty. British bitter can be compared to IPA's in the USA. Given that, there an be any level of hoppiness/bitterness. Usually they are not too high in ABV. 4.5 to 5.5%
