I was given a SS keg complete with valve and about 3 gallons of 5 year old beer inside. I want to convert the keg to a boiler and need to know how to get the valve mechanism out. Next question will be how to clean out the remaining beer residue. I would like to use a triclamp adapter to attach the column. Thanks for any help, B.

"First, let the pressure out by pressing the ball down. Make sure you don't blast yourself in the face with the old beer (tip the keg on it's side... outside). There is a spring clip that holds the valve in that you have to pry out with a small screwdriver. This video shows it pretty well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npUA8DvngVwAfter you have the clip out, turn the valve slightly (counterclockwise I think) while pulling up on the little flanges that hold the tap in. Slides right out. I use PBW (powdered brewery wash, made by Coors) to clean my kegs, it's usually available from any LHBS or online. Others might have easier or less expensive methods."

Heeler, Thanks, I have been viewing the videos on the forum site and found many helpful tutorials. Great to see the process in pictures so us new guys can better understand. BTW, what is a Sanke keg? Is Sanke a manufacturer name or a style of the keg itself?

Also, Do they make adapters to go from the ball valve housing to a copper column using a tri clamp system of connection. B.

"Well lets start with this...I'm pretty sure a sanke keg is the neck style but I'm not sure. I do know that any beer keg will work just fine.
On to the question of the ball valve adaptor...I can't answer that either but I do know if you remove the inerds or the spear from any keg you sure can get an adaptor to fit what's left.
Recently a pal had a ferrel for 2 inch copper welded right to the keg neck and on the ferrel he had a 2 inch copper coupling soldered to that. Now then what it created was the ability to just stand the tower right in the coupling and go, no need for the tri-clamp.
That's just another way of getting the same result, I dont think either is wrong or more right than the other."
