"Convert an 8 or 5 gallon BrewHaus Kettle from making distilled spirits to a beer fermentation.
I'm thinking I can omit using the condensing column /essential extractor. Using a bung to seal the top while keeping all the hardware that came with the PSII setup.
Maybe even using the bung with the predrilled hole to use for pumping in CO2, then swapping out with an undrilled bung.
Any and all thoughts welcome on this.

What would you do with the liquid after it was fermented??

"My assumption is that the liquid would be beer. So I'd bottle it & chill the bottles. or store in kegs, maybe depending on how the resulting product holds up over time.
I would not be running a distillation process as there would be no column. And there would be no heat source.
But it seems that the stainless steel would make an effective & sanitary vessel for home brewing beer.
With the seals, I'm thinking that I could add some carbonation (CO2). If you can spot any flaws in my logic, let me know.
Thanks Scotty."

Well if you already own the still and you are trying to hide the fact that it's a still well you could use it for that but man that's an exspensive fermenter. Me personally I wouldn't buy one for that perpose but that's cause I'm so damned cheap. Lots of folks use SS of some sort for a ferment vessel though, not me I use five gallon buckets. See what I mean about cheap???

"You're correct Heeler. It is expensive. Was going to use it with the idea of producing a quart or two of rich, oak aged corn distillate.
Given the onslaught of the federales intervention into the plans of hobbyists, I thogh it best to re-focus my efforts into something that will necessitate less intrusion by outside interests.
And rather than let a perfectly good vessel go to waste, I'll brew beer with it. Not my first choice for sure. But I found that I thoroughly enjoyed working with the tools of the hobby, and felt a sense of accomplishment when the product was safely & satisfactorily made annnnd it tasted good too. So my effort will go to beer brewing.
It's a shame tho that my condenser column was involved in an unfortunate boating accident and was lost at sea with all hands.
Thanks for the note Heeler !!"

"Woody, The Brewhaus kettles can be used as brew kettles. They're not ideal for the job due to the taper (you'll have to be creative with your wort chiller), but they can certainly bring your wort to a boil. You can build a mash tun with a Coleman cooler, a bulkhead valve, and some stainless braid (example see: http://hbd.org/cascade/dennybrew). With the trappings you already have from distilling, you'll then have everything you need to brew beer (minus a few gizmos for bottling). --JB"

"Wort chiller I got. as well as a mash tun / valve & filter.
hmmm, maybe a pump would work in getting the liquid out of the kettle. Transferring the product thru the wort chiller.
Then to bottle???"
