I was told several years back that if you take a stainless reflux still and remove the racshing rings or whatever you call them from the column you can run the still and make a product that will taste like what comes out of a pot still?? Anyone ever heard or done this? I am interested to hear about your experience.I have be thiinking about doing it but I am not convinced there is any benefit from doing so

don't run any water to the column, just to the condenser and it will act like a pot still. I still put a couple of plugs of copper in the column not packing it all the way just to knock some of the nasties down and I get a nice flavorful product.

dieselduo, Scotty,

How many runs are you doing when the stainless reflux still is ran as a pot? If so what is the benefit? I have a 8 gal SS reflux and I basically run the same with some copper packing w/o beads but I still run water thru both column and condenser. I am getting great flavor and I'm only running it once. My last run was
170 w/ nice flavor. I just want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Thanks
Andy
