im 2 weeks into my mash and im still at 5% instead of 0 or negative 1. it seems my yeast is almost dead. Im afraid to add more yeast I don't want my final product to taste yeasty. any ideas? I don't want it to sit much longer because I don't want to make vinegar.

I'm confused...if you're at 5% abv, that's pretty normal for any wash. Your starting gravity should have been around 1.070 and your end gravity should be around 1.005 or lower. That would give you 5-6% abv. Usually it takes about 4-7 days to do this, depending on what type of yeast you used.
It's all about the hydrometer reading to tell you where you are in any ferment.
Hope that helps,
Cal

Are you using the right hydrometer to take that final reading??? (an alcohol meter or hydro will give you % but reading a 5% on that hydrometer is tough)
You should be getting a gravity reading at this stage really.
If it's been 2 weeks it's prolly ready to run anyway.
