Hey All! Yippee! FINALLY I got the volume y'all have been talking about. The simple 25 liter sugar wash recipe gave forth. And some lessons learned that could perhaps help out other newbies. I started heating the boiler at noon with my two 25 liter buckets of sugar wash. By 4am ,ya 16 hours later, I finally had to give up and shut down. Restarted this morning and ended up with 9 quarts. 50 liters takes some time. Lesson one. I also finally got a washer for my thermometer hole which I figured gave me the almost complete lack of heat fluctuation. A non leaky column is better than a leaky one. Lesson two. Don't fall asleep. I awoke around 3:30am to see the preetiest blue flame dancing just below the top of my small necked beaker. Only because I was so tired did I merely place a wet rag on top instead of scream and jump around like Aunt Petunia had I been more awake. Lesson Three ,and 4 - remember a small necked reciever,. That all said, no one got hurt and when I became more awake had the crap scared outa me - so all good. Busy day for me; charging my boiler now with the second run of the UJSM. Don't worry, it's only a 25 liter batch. Shaving close. Yours, PJ Lily

Considering your average octane gasoline burns at around the equivalent of 70% ABV, I"d say you"re damned lucky you woke up when you did! Also, leaky column + open flame, usually = big boom! You sure have a way to find you kicks there PJ! I'm with Elricko, electric all the way! Living to drink the stuff is actualy a good idea ;,

Alex, If you go to My Sunday Afternoon post you can just barely see the foot of my gaurdian angel behind the column. I have indeed had uncommon good luck, which only has me learn faster as who wants to depend on it! I enjoy reading your posts. Going to the Jamboree? Yours, PJ Lily
