If I leave out the packing in a reflux still can it be used as a pot still or is the column (36" tall) too tall? Do I really need a pot still? My brother wants to try to make some wiskey and I would like to take a shot at some Tequila is why I ask? Thanks for any help.

36" is too tall to use as a pot still head (assuming that you are not running a 5" or 6" column). This would actually be considered a column still.

"Wait a second now, Kab, what kind of whiskey are you trying to make?

It wont do a full flavored whiskey like jack daniels but will do a nice light whiskey like segrams 7.

I use my 32"" for sugared corn all the time. I think the taste is great.
